Sealab no more...

Last night was the last episode of Sealab 2021, the television show I work on. I've been working on the show off and on since the second season, and it is kinda bittersweet to let it go. Heck, I even wrote my senior animation thesis on it! For those of you who were fans of the show, don't worry. The 70-30 gang won't be gone too long. We are finishing up the special features for the Sealab fourth season DVD and after that, we are starting work on a brand new pilot for Adult Swim ("Whiskey Tango something"). The details are top secret for now (and probably the next few months) but I hope you guys will dig it.

Whale Vs. Squid

Last week I made this new t-shirt. It features a whale fighting a giant squid. I used a Sulky Iron-On Transfer Pen. It turned out pretty well. I took this picture after I washed the shirt, so you can see that the image held up pretty well.

Painting, Part 2

This weekend, instead of going to the Dogwood Festival like a sensible Atlantan, I painted this picture of a Deinonychus skull. It's the second in a series of dinosaur skulls I plan on painting. Next up is Allosaurus, I think. That will complete my carnivorous triptych. I am still trying to decide if I should also do a triptych of herbivorous dinos like Triceratops and Parasaurolophus.

One Bad Album Cover

One Bad PigYesterday I went to the Lakewood Flea Market south of town. After eating the best corn dog I have ever had, I was looking through the tables of junk, collectibles, weird art and racist tchochkes. Suddenly, I found myself staring at the single greatest album cover I have ever seen, and for $1 it was mine!

The band is called One Bad Pig and they are a Christian heavy metal band. These are some of my favorite songs on the album. I posted some close-up shots of the band on my flickr photostream.

This one is my absolute favorite. Notice that he's is playing guitar, riding a skateboard and giving a thumbs up all at the same time! Now, THAT is METAL. Not to mention the fact that he's wearing a priest's outfit with JAMS!

Also, on the back of the album you'll find a little picture in the corner letting you know what One Bad Pig thinks of keyboards.

UPDATE: So I was browsing on One Bad Pig's website and I noticed this picture of them with Johnny Cash! After a little googling, I found out that back in 1991, they did a cover of Cash's classic "Man in Black" and he actually sang with them! This band is just ridiculous.

Hand crafted Dino Shirt, part 2

So, after reading this tutorial, I decided to try my hand at DIY screen printing. After a few trial runs and some lessons learned (i.e. use screen material, not tulle, to make your screen) I came up with this fairly simple design. It's a Deinonychus, my favorite dinosaur. I am pretty happy with it, although the edges aren't nearly as crisp as I'd like... but the screen is reusable, which means I can make heaps more. Anyone want to make a trade for some other hand crafted goods? Next, I think I am going to try doing a shirt with iron-on transfer pens. (Previously)

Return of the Fiasco

So the Silly Spider Monkey Fiasco website is back online. No thanks to Powweb. The site is now hosted at Dreamhost. I use Powweb to host this site, but considering how they treated us over this hacker issue, I may move. They were not very helpful at all. Important lesson learned: Back up all your files.

Great White set free

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has released the great white shark they had been keeping since last September. During 198 days it was in captivity, the shark grew nearly a foot and a half in length and gained 100 pounds. I guess I'll have to wait until they catch another one before I can see a white pointer in captivity.
