Free Culture
I just finished a great book, Free Culture by Lawrence Lessig. This is one of the most enlightening books I have ever read. It is basically the Bible of Copyright Reform. After reading many of the anecdotes and examples Lessig presents, I became angry; angry at the government and major media companies and at myself, for not doing more to help this cause.
Reading this book has reaffirmed my belief that copyright reform is one of the most important issues of our time. However, it doesn't get much attention, what with our current war on terrorism, social securtiy reform, etc. I think another reason it doesn't get much attention is it's non-partison nature. Anyone who stops to think about it would realize that our copyright system needs reform, whether they are Democrat or Republican. However, in today's polarized world, you hear more about the politically divisive issues.
If you are even remotely interested in this subject, then I highly reccomend this book. If you'd like to get involved in helping the cause of copyright reform and protecting your digital rights, check out the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Downhill Battle, Free Culture or Creative Commons.
