The Perils of the Outback

My little sister will be student teaching in Australia this semester. Being an avid watcher of the Discovery Channel, I have reminded her (on numerous occasions) that many dangerous animals live there. In fact, of the world's ten most deadly snakes, eight live down under! And now, their sharks have discovered teamwork! Lately, every time I hear about a new shark, crocodile or jellyfish attack in Australia, I call my mom to let her know about it. For some reason, she doesn't seem to appreciate me keeping her up to date on these matters. So I won't need to call anymore, I found this list online of the 10 most deadly animals in Australia. Guess what... great white sharks came in at number 9! That should give you a pretty good idea of just how dangerous a trip to the Outback could be.

1. Box Jellyfish
2. Irukandji Jellyfish
3. Salt Water Crocodile
4. Blue Ring Octopus
5. Stone Fish
6. Red Back Spider
7. Brown Snake
8. Tiger Snake
9. Great White Shark
10. Funnel Web Spider

I also hear that kangaroos will grab your head and kick you if they get pissed off enough. Considering the claws on their feet, they could disembowel a man.

I think that's worth a phone call to Mom!
