South Park vs. Scientology

2644a.jpgSome of you may have heard about the infamous Scientology episode of South Park when it aired last November (if not, you can watch the whole episode on YouTube). At the time, there was a lot of controversy over the episode and even some rumors that Tom Cruise might sue Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Last week, the controversy was stirred up again when Isaac Hayes, a member of the Church of Scientology, abruptly quit the show after 9 years. Then, just a few days later, the episode was pulled by Comedy Central. Supposedly, Tom Cruise threatened executives at Viacom (owner of Comedy Central) leading to the programming decision. Comedy Central denies this of course.

Now, things have gotten even weirder. Roger Friedman, a columnist for foxnews.com, says that his "sources" say Isaac Hayes is recuperating from a stroke and someone quit the show "for him".

Oh, and South Park's 10th season premiere, entitled "The Return of Chef", just happens to be this week. Coincidence?
